MICHAEL
PALFREEMAN
With nearly a decade of entrepreneurial experience, I bring a unique lens to UX/UI design—one shaped by strategy, hands-on product development, and the real-world challenge of building something from nothing.
My entrepreneurial journey began at university when I introduced a brand-new restaurant concept to the UK after living in Canada during my gap year and falling for the country’s finest export (no, not maple syrup—poutine). What started as a street food stall turned into the country’s first dedicated poutine restaurant, which I designed, launched, and ran from scratch. Over seven years, I wore every hat imaginable—branding, marketing, service design, product strategy—all done organically, fuelled by creativity and a lot of hard work and late nights.
While I loved seeing the business grow from idea to reality, I realized my passion wasn’t in the day-to-day operations—it was in the creative process. The most fulfilling part was shaping the brand, designing the customer experience, and crafting something that truly resonated with people. From the physical space to the digital touchpoints, every detail was intentionally designed to balance usability, engagement, and delight. Now I bring that same holistic, user-first mindset to digital experiences—without the deep fryer.
My background
I have a keen interest in innovation, technology, entrepreneurialism, human behaviour and design & aesthetic which together inspired a career change to UX design. I became drawn to the way UX combines creativity with a structured, user-centered process. I've always been hugely interested in psychology and human behavior and found understanding how people think, interact, and make decisions fascinating. My core motivations for UX design are an interest in these humanistic elements along with a passion for creating.
I’m driven by a desire to create things that are innovative and can enhance people’s lives, with a commitment to designing solutions that are both visually appealing and deeply functional. I aim to ensure that designs are both aesthetically pleasing- it’s all in the details- as well as meeting practical requirements and remaining user-centric at the core. I’m motivated by knowing that my work is directly impactful and the thought of knowing someone is using something I’ve helped design really excites me.
Why UX?
This summer I completed a comprehensive full-time UX/UI Career Development course with Experience Haus, Shoreditch.
During the 13 week course I worked within a team of five on three real in-depth client projects for start-ups within the fin-tech and health-tech sectors, in addition to an extensive project for the British Red Cross using emerging technologies. The three projects gave me a wide scope of exposure to learning UX processes and developed my approach to design thinking.
I have also completed a short solo freelance project after completing the course for an Australian based health-tech start-up.

Michael has been a pleasure to teach. He was an asset to the team with his calm demeanour and inquisitive nature. Constantly pushing to be the best version of himself that he can. A natural at pitching, and very fast at picking up new skills, he would slot seamlessly into most teams and working environments.
